Brentford’s 2021/22 financial results covered an “excellent” first season in the Premier League, when Thomas Frank’s team finished in a highly creditable 13th place. Not only was this their first season back in the top flight of English football in 74 years, but their fourth highest finish ever.

Following promotion to the Premier League, Brentford swung from £8.5m pre-tax loss to £29.9m profit (£25.7m after tax), as revenue surged from £15m to £141m . Both revenue and profit set new club records.
This was partially offset by a reduction in profit from player sales from £44m to £5m, while operating expenses rose £45m (64%), described as “a natural consequence of investment in a playing squad capable of competing at Premier League level.”
Chairman Cliff Crown added, “The impact created by the promotion to the Premier League has been game-changing for the club. Promotion was a culmination of years of planning, investment and hard work.”
The main driver of Brentford’s £126m revenue growth was broadcasting, which shot up from £11m to £115m, thanks to the far more lucrative Premier League TV deal, though commercial more than tripled from £4.6m to £15.6m. Match day increased from just £156k to £10.4m, due to the return of fans to the stadium after COVID restrictions eased.
In contrast, other income fell £1.0m from £2.9m to £1.9m.
