Brighton and Hove Albion’s 2021/22 accounts cover a season when Graham Potter led the club to an “excellent” 9th place in the Premier League, which was the highest top flight finish in the club’s history.
Head coach Potter left Brighton for Chelsea after Thomas Tüchel’s sacking in September, but the Seagulls’ progress has continued unabated under Roberto De Zerbi.
Profit/(Loss) 2021/22
Brighton swung from a £53m pre-tax loss to £24m profit, a significant £77m improvement, mainly due to profit from player sales shooting up from £7m to £62m, though revenue also rose £28m (20%) from £146m to a club record £174m.
This was partially offset by other operating income falling £7m to £1m, while operating expenses slightly increased by £5m (2%). Net interest flipped from £3m payable to £2m receivable.
Brighton’s revenue was boosted by the return of fans to the stadium, which led to steep increases in match day, up from just £0.5m to £20.6m, and commercial, up £5.2m (20%) from £22.4m to £27.6m. Broadcasting revenue also rose £3m (3%) from £123m to £126m.
Excluding the new Monks Farm development project, revenue rose £28m (20%) from £140m to £168m.
