While most football fans know that Liverpool spent the most in this summer’s transfer market, making the three most expensive signings in the Premier League in the shape of Isak, Wirtz and Ekitiké, not everyone will have appreciated that Arsenal actually had the highest net spend.
Net Spend Summer 2025
The Gunners splashed out a hefty £282m net, which was just ahead of Liverpool’s £268m. Both clubs spent a lot more than every other club, with the next highest being around £100m lower, namely Manchester United £183m and Tottenham Hotspur £178m.
To further underline the size of the outlay, this was not only the highest net spend in England, but also worldwide this summer.
Gross Spend Summer 2025
The arrival of sporting director Andrea Berta, previously at Atlético Madrid, has seemingly helped drive a more focused approach to recruitment, as a number of major purchases were made.
It’s fair to say that the Arsenal “went for it” this summer, as they smashed their transfer record after spending £291m on new players, the largest signings being Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting and Noni Madueke from Chelsea.
In addition, the club further strengthened the squad by picking up the promising Christhian Mosquera from Valencia, the experienced Christian Norgaard from Brentford and Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea as reserve goalkeeper.
Finally, on deadline day, they signed Piero Hincapié from Bayer Leverkusen on loan with a conditional obligation to make the deal permanent.
