Who am I?

My name is Kieron O’Connor. I am the man behind the Swiss Ramble blog and Twitter feed. I have been writing online about football finance since 2009 and have won a number of awards, including the Football Supporters’ Federation’s Blogger of the Year three times.

I love football and like to think that I know a bit about finance, so I have attempted to bring the two together in a way that football fans can easily understand.

Although football finance can be a fairly niche subject, fans seem to appreciate being able to understand what is going on at their club. so the Swiss Ramble community has grown to nearly a quarter of a million followers on Twitter and thousands of subscribers here on Substack. The blog is widely followed by football club owners, industry executives and investors, and is frequently quoted in the media.

Writing the blog has been my hobby for many years, a genuine labour of love, but it is a lot of work to maintain, so it has become a major commitment.

As you might imagine, this sort of analysis takes a lot of research and time, so it would be great if you would consider supporting these efforts and ensure that the Swiss Ramble continues.

In order to keep this thing going, I’m going to have to ask for your backing. I’ve provided my content free of charge for well over a decade, but the time has come to implement a paid model.

Why upgrade to a Paid Subscription?

A paid subscription would give you the following:

  • At least one article every week, often more, especially during the reporting season when clubs publish their accounts.

  • Detailed financial reviews of every football club in the English Premier League and Championship.

  • Similar reviews of many leading European clubs in other leagues, such as Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and the Scottish Premiership.

  • Thoughtful analysis and insight on many important topics in the football business, e.g. the valuation of football clubs, Champions League, organisations (FIFA, UEFA, Premier League), Financial Fair Play, transfer spend, media rights, etc.

  • Access to the full archive and new posts as they are published.

How much will it cost?

I’ve tried to keep the pricing attractive, as it’s important to me to share my work with as many people as possible.

  • Monthly - $6 a month

  • Annual - $60 a year (i.e. 2 months free)

  • Founding Member - $120 a year. This is aimed at people that work in the football industry, who can afford more than the average fan (and probably claim the cost on expenses). Alternatively, this is the option for people who want to show a bit more love!

What if I don’t want to pay?

That’s completely understandable. I know that not everyone has the time or ability to pay, so there will be free articles on the blog from time to time. I would still like you guys around, reading my analysis, and perhaps you might change your mind one day.

Thank you for your support

It’s been hugely enjoyable seeing the Swiss Ramble grow from the proverbial “friends and family”, but it’s now time for a new chapter.

I truly appreciate everyone who reads my analysis, shares the articles or engages with me, so I hope you’ll subscribe and stick around.

There’s lots going on in the world of football finance!
